AI Car Doctor

Android car diagnostics app

An Android app that reads car data through an OBD adapter (ELM327) and lets an AI assistant explain fault codes and symptoms in a language you understand.

Technology
Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Node.js, Room, Bluetooth / BLE

A lit engine warning says little. AI Car Doctor connects to the car, gathers fault codes and sensor data, and gives a plain-language explanation, with a clear notice that a mechanic must always confirm.

The app is written in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose with its own Node.js backend that keeps AI keys off the phone. The interface exists in ten languages.

Confirmed features

  • Bluetooth connection to ELM327 adapters
  • Reading fault codes and sensor data with local scan history
  • AI analysis and chat through a separate backend, with no keys in the app
  • Ten languages including Norwegian, plus dark and light mode
  • Multiple vehicle profiles stored on the device

Status and limitations

Tested with unit tests and on a Samsung phone, but not yet confirmed on a real car with an adapter. Connection to manufacturer vehicle data (for example Volvo) is not set up. AI answers do not replace a mechanic. The screenshots show the English interface.
